| Status | Hoax | | Comments | Garrison Keillor is a well-known humorist, and his remarks were not announcing a real effort for a constitutional amendment. | | Description | National Public Radio (NPR) host Garrison Keillor, an
outspoken Democrat, voiced his reaction to the re-election
of President Bush recently by telling both live and radio
audiences that born-again Christians should not be allowed
to vote, WorldNetDaily.com reported.
Keillor, know best for hosting the popular NPR show "A
Prairie Home Companion," unabashedly mocked the Christian
vote, comparing it to allowing those from another country
to have a say in political matters.
"I am now the chairman of a national campaign to pass a
constitutional amendment to take the right to vote away
from born-again Christian," he said. "Just a little
project of mine. My feeling is that born-again people are
citizens of heaven . . . not here among us in America."
One visitor posting to FreeRepublic.com summed it up well:
"Replace 'born-again' with 'black people' and Keillor
should get a sense of the depths of his bigotry."
