Grow your snake, eat glowing dots, avoid crashing into others. Multiplayer chaos that never gets old.

What it is

Slither.io is the snake game everyone had open at some point, still free and still full. You are a small glowing snake on a dark arena shared with everyone else online. Eat the pellets to grow longer, make other snakes crash into you, and never let your own head touch anyone. One touch and you are back on the title screen.

How to play

Type a nickname, or do not, and press Play. Your snake follows the mouse pointer, or your finger on a phone. Hold the mouse button or Space to boost, which moves you fast for a moment. Pellets make you longer. When a snake dies it leaves a trail of bright pellets, which is where the real growth is. Change Skin and Choose Server sit on the title screen if you want a different look or a nearer server, and there is a graphics quality toggle for older machines.

What makes it different

There are no levels and no upgrades, only length. A long snake is a bigger target with more to lose, and the best players use their length to fence smaller snakes in. Every round has the same shape: careful start, greedy middle, one moment of overconfidence, then the title screen again. The title page carries no ads, no consent dialog and no login, which is unusual for a game this popular.

Why it is on Bored

Nobody has quite finished with it, and it needs nothing installed. The link goes to the game's own address, which forwards to its current home. One note: the page is served over plain http, so it is a play-only page and a nickname is the only thing to type into it.

Tips

  • Boost across the path of a bigger snake and make them hit you, it is the only way to take one down
  • Circle a smaller snake once you have the length, they run out of room
  • Save the boost for escapes and traps rather than for wandering
  • The pellets from a big crash draw everyone, grab and leave
