Smash, burn, drill, or feed a whole web page to termites, then hit undo like nothing happened. Six fake sites to wreck right here, plus an extension for the real ones. Cheaper than a stress ball.

What it is

Page Rage is a tiny pixel-art shooter that runs on top of a web page. A little spaceman appears in the corner, you take the controls, and every headline, button and picture on the page becomes something to shoot. The browser extension brings it to any site. The site itself offers six pre-made pages to wreck with nothing installed: parodies of a forum, a news site, a social feed, a shop and a mail client.

How to play

Click Break this page on the homepage, or pick one of the pre-made pages. After a short scanning-for-weakness banner your spaceman drops in with a card of controls: W A S D to move, click to shoot, right-click for a special, 1 to 5 or the scroll wheel to switch weapons, space to dash. A row of five weapon icons sits top-right with restart, sound and settings buttons. Aim at anything and fire. Text gets struck through and elements break apart where they stand.

What makes it different

It is a game about the page you are already on. Instead of a fake screen to smash, it turns the real layout into the level, and the pre-made pages are parodies built to be wrecked. The extension takes the same idea to every site you visit, which is a dangerous gift for a slow afternoon, and it is the rare toy that gets better the more annoying the page underneath it is.

Why it is on Bored

Shooting a web page achieves nothing, which is the point, and it achieves nothing with real style. It runs with nothing installed and asks for nothing. Play the pre-made pages first, and install the extension only if you find yourself wanting to shoot your inbox.

Tips

  • Try all five weapons, the scroll wheel switches them fast
  • Space is a dash, for getting out of a corner fast
  • Start with the pre-made pages before installing anything
  • Turn the sound down at work, the effects are on by default

FAQ

Is Page Rage free?

Yes. The pre-made pages play free in any browser, with no account, no ads and no cookie banner. The extension is a separate install.

Does it work on a phone?

Not really. It wants a keyboard and a mouse, so a laptop or desktop is the place for it.

Does it have sound?

Yes. Sound effects play by default, with a sound button in the corner.

Does it end?

No. You wreck a page until you are done, then restart it or load another.
