Pile into a room with friends or strangers for BombParty, a word game with a fuse, or PopSauce, a picture quiz. Type fast or the bomb goes off.
What it is
JKLM.FUN is a lobby for party games you play with other people in a browser, no download and no account. The headline game is BombParty, a word game in which a bomb is passed around a table of players, and the big one next to it is PopSauce, which the site calls a blind test for your eyes. A Game Selector room lets the table vote on what to play. The front page shows live player and room counts and lists every public room as a ticket with its game, its language and a four-letter code.
How to play
Pick a room from the list, or start your own and send friends the code. In BombParty a syllable appears in the middle of the table, such as YPI or NERS, and the player holding the bomb has to type a word that contains it before the fuse runs out. Manage it and the bomb moves on. Fail and you lose a life. The letters you use fill in a bonus alphabet on the side, and using it up gives a life back. The site says the timer starts somewhere between ten and thirty seconds, counts down from player to player and is only topped up to the minimum turn length, and the room leader sets the dictionary, the prompt difficulty, the minimum turn length and the lives. A scoreboard tracks words, typing speed and reaction time, and a chat runs beside the table.
What makes it different
Built for crowds. The site says a BombParty room takes up to sixteen players and a PopSauce room up to a hundred, and the public list at one point ran in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese, with bot-hosted rooms keeping a table open per language. The site says the dictionaries are kept private so word lists cannot be used to cheat. Rooms persist, so you can sit out a round, watch, and press Auto-join when you are ready. The chat beside the table is public and open to anyone in the room, strangers included.
Why it is on Bored
A word game with a fuse is a different animal from a word game with a timer, and watching a stranger panic over a three-letter prompt is half the fun. Joining takes one click and a nickname, and a private room with four friends on phones is a complete evening.
Tips
- Watch a round first, the Auto-join button sits at the bottom
- Spell toward the letters you have not used yet, the bonus alphabet is how you get a life back
- A room you start yourself is yours to configure, a room you join runs on the leader's settings
- The speaker icon in the room header has a volume slider
- The chat is public, so treat it like any room full of strangers
