Logos From Memory

You see these brands every day, yet you're about to draw a Nike swoosh that looks like a wet noodle.

What it is

Logos From Memory is a page of twelve blank canvases, each with a single instruction: draw the logo of a brand you see every day. A fast-food chain, a sportswear company, a coffee chain, a search engine, a music app. You draw from memory, press reveal, and the real logo appears next to your attempt. The gap between the two is the entire experience.

How to play

Scroll to the first canvas and draw with your mouse or finger. Do not look anything up, that is the point. When you are done, press reveal logo to see the original beside your drawing. Move on to the next one. There is no score and no timer, and nothing stops you from revealing before you draw, but where is the fun in that.

What makes it different

You have seen these twelve logos thousands of times, and you will still put the tick on the wrong side or forget how many colors are in the search engine's name. That gap is a small, honest lesson in how little of what we look at we actually see. It is also very funny in a group, because everyone gets the same logos wrong in different ways.

Why it is on Bored

Design Games is for links that make you look harder at things, and this one does it in the most direct way possible: it makes you produce the thing and then shows you what you missed. Two minutes in, most people are laughing at their own coffee cup.

Tips

  • Draw before you think, first instinct is usually closer than the second
  • Try it with someone else and compare before revealing
  • Do the ones you feel most confident about first, they are the most humbling
  • A finger on a phone works fine, precision is not the point
