Off by a mile

How to play Off by a mile

Five questions a day, all of them the kind nobody actually knows. How tall is the tallest tree on the planet, how heavy is a grand piano, how many hairs are on one head. Drag the slider to your best guess and lock it in. Scoring is based on how close you land: get within a couple of percent and you take the full hundred points, be out by a factor of ten and you get almost nothing. After the fifth question you see the real numbers, your total for the day and whether your streak survived. Fresh questions at midnight.

About Off by a mile

Estimation is a funny skill. Hardly anyone knows how much a blue whale weighs, but most people can land in the right ballpark if they think about it for ten seconds. That gap between "no clue" and "actually not bad" is exactly what makes this kind of guessing fun to argue about in a pub. Off by a mile turns it into a short daily routine: five questions, one slider, a score out of five hundred and a streak that quietly guilts you into coming back. Questions rotate across buildings, animals, space, sport, the human body and everyday objects, so a good day at one topic will not carry you through the week.
