What it is
Days Since Incident is a factory safety board for the whole planet. You know the sign, days since the last accident, with a proud number that resets to zero when someone drops a pallet. This page keeps one of those counters for every kind of natural disaster it can track: earthquakes at several magnitudes, tsunamis by wave height, hurricanes by category, volcanic eruptions by explosivity, solar flares, geomagnetic storms, tornadoes, asteroid impacts and a few surprises. Each counter says what the last incident was, where, and when, and the numbers update from live data.
How to play
Scroll. The counters are stacked from the most recent kind of event at the top, often at zero, down to the ones that last happened tens of thousands or millions of years ago, where the digits run out of room. Read the last-incident line under each one, then keep going and watch the scale change from days to centuries to geological time. Come back another day and the top of the board has moved.
What makes it different
Disaster news is all noise and no proportion. A board of counters fixes that in one glance: small earthquakes are constant, the big ones are rare, and the truly civilization-ending events are so far apart that the number becomes a kind of joke. The hazard-stripe design makes the point without a word of commentary.
