It's Tetris. In your browser. You already know if you're clicking this link.

What it is

Tetris Official is the free browser game on the brand's own site: the falling-block puzzle with a hold box, a three-piece preview, a ghost piece, a level selector and a high-score table. It is a small portrait play field in the middle of a big page, built to work on a phone as well as a desktop.

How to play

Press Play and a three-second countdown starts. Pieces fall, you move them with the arrow keys, rotate right with Up and left with Z, soft drop with Down, hard drop with Space and hold with C. Fill a row and it clears. Four at once is the big one. The game speeds up as the level rises, and the round ends when the stack reaches the top. On a phone you can drag the piece with a finger or use swipe controls, both explained in the help pages.

What makes it different

It is the official version, with T-spins that score, back-to-back bonuses, and a scoring table you can read in the help menu. The options panel lets you rebind every key, set the auto-repeat delay and speed, toggle the ghost piece and the animations, turn mouse control on, and pick a music type. That is more control than a free web game usually gives you, and it is the difference between playing and practicing.

Why it is on Bored

When a name is this well known, the only question is which version to link. This is the one with the real rules, no download and no account. The price is two consent layers on the way in, a cookie banner and a partner list. Get past those and it is just the game.

Tips

  • Learn hard drop with Space, it is where the speed comes from
  • Use the hold box for the long piece, then wait for a well
  • Lower the auto-repeat delay in the options once your fingers catch up
  • The ghost piece shows where a drop lands, keep it on until you do not need it
