Not a Robot

Prove your humanity by completing CAPTCHAs that get increasingly unhinged and existential.

What it is

Not a Robot is a puzzle game built out of the tests websites use to check you are human. Level one is a single checkbox. Level two asks you to select all the squares with a stop sign. From there the levels keep coming and the tasks keep getting stranger, until proving you are a person starts to feel like an exam you did not study for. The page is signed by a human, which is the joke.

How to play

Tick the box. Then do whatever the next level asks: pick the right squares, pass the check, press verify. Each level is a self-contained task with a verify button, and a reset control sits on the page the whole time if you get stuck. Your current level is saved in your browser, so you can close the tab and come back to the same test later.

What makes it different

Everyone has failed a real checkbox test at some point and wondered what it wanted from them. This game takes that low-grade humiliation and builds a whole staircase out of it. The joke is not that the tasks are hard, though some are. The joke is that the format is so familiar that each new twist on it lands immediately, without instructions.

Why it is on Bored

It is a game about the internet's most annoying ritual, made by someone who clearly enjoys the ritual more than the rest of us. New in 2025 and already the kind of thing people send to each other with no explanation attached.

Tips

  • Read each level's instruction line fully before clicking anything
  • The reset control is always there if a level goes wrong
  • It saves your level, so there is no need to finish in one sitting
  • Play it on a screen large enough to see the image grids clearly
