How to play Reversi

Reversi is played on an 8 by 8 board with two sided black and white discs. On your turn, place a disc so it traps a row of your opponent's discs between two of yours. Every trapped disc flips to your colour. You can only play moves that flip at least one disc. When neither side can move, the player with the most discs wins.

About Reversi

Reversi was invented in England in 1883 by two rival creators who both claimed the idea. It got reborn as Othello in 1971 in Japan with the famous "a minute to learn, a lifetime to master" tagline. Othello tournaments still draw thousands of players worldwide. Our version pits you against a thinking AI that plays positional Reversi rather than greedy capture moves. It will punish bad opening play but is beatable once you learn the corner game.
