Look at the clues and pin down the exact year history went down. Catnip for armchair historians and chronological snobs.
What it is
Guess the year is a daily history quiz in five clues. Each clue describes a well known invention, gadget, film, game or world moment without naming its date, and you pick the year it happened from four options. Five clues, one year each, a score out of five, a streak for coming back, and a spoiler-free grid to share. Everyone gets the same five clues on the same day, so the arguments are fair.
How to play
Press start or hit enter. Read the clue, choose one of the four years, lock it in, and the game tells you at once whether you were right. Five rounds later you get your score and the share grid. The clues span decades of culture and technology, so a few will be easy and one or two will catch you out. Come back tomorrow for the next five, and keep the streak going.
What makes it different
It is a memory test disguised as a nostalgia trip. The years are the kind you feel you know, when that gadget came out, when that film was everywhere, and a feeling is not always enough. It is also short on purpose: five clues is enough to start a disagreement at the table and not enough to end one.
Why it is on Bored
History quizzes used to come in two sizes, school or trivia night, and neither fits a two-minute break, so we built one that does. The right year out of four is all it asks, which is a kinder test of memory than it sounds. Five clues, a score, a streak, and the same set for everyone, so the argument at the table is fair.
Tips
- Anchor on a year you are sure of, then count up or down
- Technology tends to be more recent than it feels
- If two options are close, trust your first instinct
- Come back daily, the streak is the real prize
