How to play Avoid the spikes

Tap or press a key to flap upward. Gravity pulls your character back down. Spikes scroll in from the right and you have to slip through the gaps. The longer you survive, the faster the spikes come. Touching a spike ends the run. Your score is how far you made it. There is no end, just one more attempt.

Tips

• Tap in short rhythmic taps, do not hold or mash
• Stay near the centre, the gaps spawn there most often
• Look ahead, react to the next spike not the one in your face
• After a death, take a break for ten seconds, reflexes recover fast

About Avoid the spikes

Endless runners blew up after Flappy Bird in 2014 turned a tiny bird and two pipes into a global phenomenon. The format goes back further, helicopter games and SFCave on Palm pilots in the early 2000s. The recipe never changes. One button, no end, leaderboards. Our version swaps in a glowing block and spikes, and it runs equally well on a phone in landscape and a desktop with the spacebar.
