How to play Snake

This is plain old Snake with a few pixel art extras, not a reinvention. Use the arrow keys, WASD or swipe to steer. The snake never stops and speeds up a little with every bite. A berry adds one segment and one point. Now and then an apple appears for ten seconds and is worth ten segments and ten points if you reach it in time. Bombs sit on the board too, and more arrive as you grow. Hit a wall, a bomb or your own tail and the run ends. No levels, one greedy run for the highest score.

Tips

• Plan your turns a few cells ahead, do not just react
• Only chase an apple when the path to it is clear, ten segments arrive all at once
• Hug the edges early so the middle stays open
• When the tail gets long, spiral inward instead of zig zagging
• Slow taps beat panic taps, your snake will not wait for you

About Snake

Snake started as a black and white toy on early phones in the late 1990s and showed up on millions of Nokia handsets. Most people who owned a 3310 still remember chasing the wall edge for one more segment. The rules barely change, you and a hungry square in a small box, but it never gets old. Our version keeps it that way: the same game in chunky pixel art with keyboard or touch controls, plus timed apples and a few bombs to steer around. If you want the classic, this is the classic.
